If you work in Android and Paint.NET, here's some quick tips and resources to make both easier to work with. When designing graphics in Paint.NET, it would be really useful to have direct access to all of the Android design guide colors. So, here's how to save and load different color palettes in Paint.NET:

Level Up - Android: How to get started with Android Wear and the Wearables Emulator
Recently, I started working on Android Wear for the first time. It's been fun playing around with the new platform and form factor. And, of course, the official Android docs that I read could be condensed further for absolute newcomers. So, in the typical fashion, I've created myself a cheat sheet that I would use next time I would want to learn the easiest way for how to best create Wearable apps.
I've open sourced all my code so far on GitHub. It includes how to first set up the virtual Wear device, connect to the handheld device, and how to have the app send and open a notification on the wearable.

Published Two New Apps: Flappy Gravity and Gravity Runner
Using Construct 2, I've created two new HTML5 apps which run natively in Windows 8 and Windows Phone. I'd like to encourage you to try the apps. The links go to the store where you can see screenshots of the apps.
Gravity Runner
Gravity has gone crazy. There's only one hope... But, beware, the more times you change gravity, the more your power goes down.
- You are in control of gravity!
- Infinite, randomized levels
- Touch-enabled
Available now:
- Windows 8
- Windows Phone
Flappy Gravity
Gravity gone wrong! Change gravity with every tap! Avoid the obstacles.

Published New App: Wall Ball
I just created a new game using a concept that I haven't seen in any other game. It's almost like a single player pong game with different objectives.
Using the Construct 2 game engine, so that I only have to create the code base once, I've made the game available for Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
Try it out now:

Published New App: One-Click Saga
Today (and yesterday), I created this "One-Click Saga" game using the Construct 2 game engine. C2 definitely allows great games to be created with ease.
Description:
Three games to master. Flappy's too tired to flap anymore, so he is taking a ride on different airborne vehicles. Rules are the same: tap to save the clone bird's life! But, in each game a tap does something different...
Available Now:
- Windows 8

Level Up - Creativity: Revamp Old Ideas
A thought just occurred to me, how am I going to describe the next game I create?
One requirement would have to be that the description entices visitors to download the game and try it..
So, I could try to be original, which I usually do try to do.. Or, a new strategy occurred to me: be original within the bounds of what people already know about.
Here's a few descriptions for new games off the top of my head:
- Bomberman, without the bombs.
- Flappy Bird, but you're a fish, and underwater, avoiding nasty underwater cactus.
- Flappy Bird + Bomberman = Try to blow up pixel birds.
- Pong, but one player and no computer opponent.
- Side-scrolling shooter
Maybe these aren't the most creative ideas, but they can work. For more creativity, assumption reversal usually works better. Post coming soon. ;)

Level Up - Webmaster: Transfer MediaWiki Instance To Another Domain or Server
I just completed the process for the first time, so it is fresh on my mind. Provided here is an easy summary of the exact links and steps that I needed. I went from MediaWiki version 1.20 to 1.22.2.
MediaWiki recommends only transferring files/database between same versions. So, these steps will also quickly include updating the "old" wiki first before installing a new instance on the new domain.
This information is for small, non-customized wikis. For more important data, you should probably read Manual:Upgrading.
Upgrade to newest stable release (optional)
0. Check requirements by reading the release notes
1. Backup files and database. The different ways include SSH, FTP, and via phpMyAdmin. More info
2. Upgrade files. Latest version. One idea is to upload these new files in a different directory, then change the names of the two directories so that the new one starts serving the files.
2.1. Added back LocalSettings.php, Images folder, and custom extensions.
3. Upgrade database. For the web method, navigate to "/mw-config/index.php". Some requirement checks will be performed during the setup wizard process.
4. Test if successful.
Create MediaWiki instance in the new server/domain
0. Backup files and database if you haven't already done so in the first section.
1. Create new instance of MediaWiki on new domain.
2. Import old settings and files from old domain, and change link locations as appropriate.
3. Test.
More detailed info: Manual:Moving a wiki

Level Up - Webmaster: Installing Laravel and Composer on Bluehost
These steps will get you though getting Laravel up and running on your Bluehost server, though these instructions should be a good enough how-to for other shared hosting providers as well.
This was my first time experiencing (and hearing of) Laravel and Composer and had to look at many websites to figure this information out. Below is a walkthrough of all the steps I would have needed in one location. For more advanced and specific informations, I provide links at the end. But, the steps shown should be enough to get going quickly from scratch.
1. SSH into your server at ~/bin/
2. Ensure that you have PHP 5.3.7+ on your server. Composer requires 5.3.2+ and Laravel requires PHP 5.3.7+. You can check with which php and which php-cli
3. Install Composer: Run the command curl -s http://getcomposer.org/installer | php
Note: Step 5 may take a minute or two, there are many dependencies that have to also be installed for Laravel.
Extra steps
6. Look at this file for project-specific adjustable values: app/config/app.php and bootstrap/paths.php
7. See my next post for more walkthrough
More info:
- Laravel installation instructions
- Laravel configuration instructions
- Then, the Quickstart
Error: "warning: composer should be invoked via the CLI version of PHP, not the cgi-fcgi SAPI"
Fix: Use the command php-cli instead of php.

Updated! Google Chrome Finally Adds A Sound Icon For Tabs!
| I spy a sound icon |
This has been a long wanted feature from many people.
And, as always, Google slowly rolls out new features. So, you may have gotten your already, or will soon be able to see which tab sound is playing in. I found a news article from way back on November 13th, 2013 mentioning this update, where it was in beta.
And, there should be a link to the XKCD comic/article that mentions this feature. That comic was written a long time ago. Hopefully, I can find it again.

New Perspectives for a New Year (and crazy predictions for 2014)
Another year, Happy Birthday!
--
Resolution: Make this the best 2013 ever!
(Hint: There are at least three meanings in the line above.)
--
Resolution: Celebrate New Years Eve, not just celebrate on the day before New Years Day.
--
Idea: Celebrate New Years every time zone!
(For the advanced users, that would be more than 24 celebrations in one day)
--
Idea: I'm starting a countdown until next New Years Day. 365! Now, somebody else keep track.
--
Maybe as an April Fools joke, they should let the New York Times Square ball seemingly be dropped by full gravity and nothing slowing it down. Actually, imagine if all the lights in the Empire State building, or another tall building, make it look like the lights were sinking like a Tetris piece falling.
--
If somebody had no resolutions last year, then let their resolution for this year to have at least one resolution next year.
--
One of these years, in order to try to please people, there is going to be a savvy politician proposing celebrating New Years twice instead of just the traditional, once.
--
Using the numbers in 2014, make 42: 42^1+0. Others?
--
Crazy prediction for 2014:
- Octopus found with nine tentacles, called Nonapus. There is also an octopus with seven tentacles found.
- Microsoft creates a movie, about elves.
- McDonald's creates a product and one of their marketing lines is, "A McDonald's in every home!"
- People start growing "regular" grass of different colors to stand out.
- "Artificial" Intelligence "creates" its own music after analyzing millions of other different songs.
- Stocks continue going up for another three months, then many analyst decide they've all been too excited and driving up prices to much. Thus, stocks dip a little and flat-line compared to past few years.
- A new type of fire is invented.
- Spray-able electronics fused with bio-something allow creation of faster/cheaper devices and easier Christmas trees.
- China couldn't stop Santa with their no-fly zone last year. This year, they will either call for an all-out war against Santa, or say he's obviously Chinese and supports Communism.
- Scientists/archaeologist discover that Rudolph didn't actually have a red nose despite what that one reindeer song says.
- Pillows scientifically proven bad for health.
- Robot plays guitar! (already done)
- Wal-Mart raises their minimum wage above the state minimum wages.
ps - I tried to stay away from the computer (or uses computer tech) category because those are easier to think of compared to other industries.

A few days ago, I had my Nexus 4's OS updated from Android 4.3 to Android 4.4. The system is running very smooth. Two of the first things I did was enable developer mode and then enabled all apps to use the new ART compiler rather than the old Dalvik compiler.

"Reading Isn't Free. The Cost Is Opening Your Mind To New Perspectives"
Today, as I was riding my bike 3.5 miles to play volleyball, I thought up of a new tagline for my blog, "Anonsage. Think. Do. Learn."
The old tagline was, "Thinking about thinking about thinking. Don't be stuck in a paradigm, facts change." And, I really like that one. I might even use it again. Or at least feed it to one of my sub-blogs to use for awhile. But, now, I think I have a better line, only because my old lines has been in use for such a long time.
"Reading isn't free. The cost is opening your mind."
Here's some other variations of it that I was thinking of:
I could think of others right now, but my blog posts have recently been getting on the really long side. So, I'll leave it up as an exercise to the reader to think of more variations on "reading is not free".
In my first used version of this, it will have to be "Reading isn't free. The cost is opening your mind to new ideas and perspectives." even though it is a little longer. I hope readers will better understand what happens in this blog. But, I'm still really thinking about taking out the "ideas" part... hmmm...
~ Simply Advanced ~
ps - At the time of this writing, Google search returns no results for any of these quotes/taglines in quotations (",").

- Reading isn't free. The cost is opening your mind to new perspectives.
- Personally, this might be my favorite because it has "new perspective" in it. But, in order to be Simply Advanced™, I have to limit things if not too much is taken away. I hope "cost is opening your mind" makes enough sense. Perhaps, I'll try both in some A/B testing. I would like to see which version aligns with readers better.
- The cost of reading is opening your mind [to new perspectives].
- It's short and sweet, but I don't think it is as powerful as, "Reading isn't free".
- The cost of listening is opening your mind to new perspectives.
- This is a more general quote, which is more useful when in a non-reading context.

The Outer Limits (Television Show) New Jesus
There are many great episodes that come to mind specifically when I think about The Twilight Zone or The Other Limits. Each one of them expand your thinking to new dimensions or allows you to see something in a new light.
It took quite a searches to find one episode in particular regarding religion. I tried to search queries such as, "the twilight zone new jesus", "the outer limits (tv show) religion", and many more searches that progressively got longer until something like "(tv show OR movie OR video) guy preaches, bible in his hand gets shot, he dies and he replaces jesus". Those long queries didn't even help so I had to start looking through each of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limit shows' summaries one by one until I found the show that I was looking for.
The main episode I was interested shows a sample of what blind religion is and could be: The Outer Limit's "Revival" episode.
Whilst looking for that episode I found another interesting one that I kept running into when looking for the above show. It's about finding the DNA of Jesus and using in vitro fertilization to bring about the second coming of Jesus: The Outer Limit's "The Shroud" episode.
I could explain the full videos in just a few paragraphs in order for the reader to save more time, but I wouldn't want to take away from how awesome the series of The Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone are. Even though I talk about and link to two of The Outer Limits shows, in my opinion The Twilight Zone is better overall. The later expands one thinking in even more directions.

New Perspective - Up
Get a new perspective of your surrounding by looking up.
Today, while I was leaving my class to go home, I decided to look up as I walked down the stairs and saw parts of the building that I never saw before. Same thing when walking outside also.
I may have ran into a few people, but it is worth it for the new experiences.

Stereotypical Social Computer Programmer
It is typically portrayed that computer programmers are always at their computer writing code and are less social than average.
But, I'm going to present another perspective. Perhaps computer programmers are the most social in regards that they write many programs for others and society. In order to be a great programmer, one must know how the market thinks.

Windows 8 Power Users
There is going to be a new paradigm with Windows 8. I'm not just talking about the Modern UI (also was known as Metro UI).
Microsoft provides users many advanced mouse functionalities that hasn't been natively including in an operating system.
Typically, when we think of power users, we think of experts at the keyboard that have memorized many shortcuts and snippets of code. But, the new paradigm shift from Windows 8 is going to provide people the ability to call themselves mouse power users. Perhaps more people will learn about mouse gestures because of this. I'd give it at least another two years before mouse gestures become more mainstream, not just the mouse device gestures.
Personally, I typically prefer the keyboard to mouse, so much so that I created a script that allows keyboards to perform a double-click. But, there are definitely some times that the mouse is faster. Also, for those who don't like to use the keyboard at all there are many programs that you can download to provide your mouse the ability to do pretty much anything.

Let me know your experiences with mouse gestures.

LegalZoom: Simply Advanced, LLC
Finally, just submitted all the documents and payments to LegalZoom so that Simply Advanced, LLC could be official. I heard a few good things about them and this is the real test for me. LegalZoom says that the filing process could take anywhere from 20-35 days. I will share with the world how the experience goes.
The application process on LegalZoom is relatively straightforward. On the first page, they say it will take about 15 minutes to complete. I'm sure I spent at least 30 minutes reading every question and help available. Be sure to read about the details of LegalZoom LLC creation before beginning the process. There are a few fees that they don't tell you about during the application process.
One interesting experience while filling out all of the forms was getting a phone call by one of the LegalZoom representatives. I didn't have any questions at the time, but I'm sure it can be really useful. And now I have the email and phone number of a specific representative, rather than an overarching number with menus and submenus.
I've read a lot about starting and running businesses already, but there is still a lot of business materials that I have to read before considering myself capable of running this business. It's time to learn fast by throwing myself into it.

New Years Resolution of 2013
This is the first year that I'm going to create a blog post about my New Years Resolution.
LTE Discovery was my main innovative app of 2012. If you search Google for "LTE Discovery", then it should be the first link that pops up. After three weeks of being on Google Play, LTE Discovery is still a one-of-a-kind app. =]
~ Simply Advanced ~
UPDATE: Added hand stands as goal.
- My main goal for this year is to create at least one truly innovative mobile application.
- Also for this year would be to develop at least two half-innovative apps.
- This year will be the one where I do more hand stands and possibly a vertical push-up!
