Knowledge Really Is Power

It's been happening quite a bit recently.

Ever get the feeling that everything you're doing seems really easy or smooth? That's knowledge at work. It allows the completion of many tasks to become easier. The more knowledge you have, the more tasks that are available.

Originally, when I first thought of this post idea, the above was pretty much all that I wanted to write about. But, now I'm seeing another side to this story...

Maybe, when one has reached the point of everything being easy, it means that the person isn't being challenged anymore, thus isn't growing or learning... So, it might be time for a change.

Because, after all knowledge really is power. ;)

Construct 2: Reporting Bugs for Windows Phone 8

For the past few WP8 apps I've been creating using Construct 2, I've been manually making the necessary bug fixes myself. Today I've decided to properly report three of these bugs to the developers of Construct 2. My last bug report that I sent to them a few weeks ago was fixed. And, I expect the same with these bugs, especially, since I described them almost like I fixed it for them. ;)

The three errors reported:
- WP8 Export: Fullscreen not being set
- WP8 Export: App title not carrying over to WP8
- Windows Phone 8 Export, no apostrophes allowed

In the meantime, until these errors are fixed, you can visit the links to see how I solved the problems manually. If the links don't work, then that most likely means that the bug has been fixed and the bug report post has moved to a different place.

UPDATE: Each of these reported bugs have now been fixed! Construct 2, release 157

Common Sense is Not Common

Not everybody has the same common sense as everybody else. Many people grow up in different environments with different experiences and knowledge learned.

I though that was common sense, but I guess not.

Bug Fix: Windows Phone Not Detected, Can't Connect To Windows Phone Developer Registration

The Problem:
"Status: Unable to connect to a phone. For Windows Phone 7 phones make sure the Zune software is running and the Zune recognizes your phone. For Windows Phone 8 phones make sure that the Windows Phone IP Over USB Transport (IpOverUsbSvc) service is running."

The Solution:
- What worked for me was just using a regular USB cable and plugging it in directly to the computer rather than going through an USB hub.

- For many other, what works is ensuring that "Windows Phone IP Over USB Transport" (IpOverUsbSvc) is running. How to do that? Here's an easiest way: Go into start, search "Administrative Tools" -> Click "Services", then find and double-click on "Windows Phone IP Over USB Transport", and find the start or maybe even the reset button.

"No reason" is not always "no reason"

Think about that for a little bit,

"no reason" is not always "no reason".

Have you ever given the reason or excuse, "no reason"?

At first it seems like a simple phrase that could just be expanded to, "for no reason at all".

But, if you care to think about it a little more, then there are actually two different ways to interpret "no reason", like so:

  1. Arbitrarily, no reason...
  2. Because, no reason...

This has the potential to have significant implications depending on its use case. The first interpretation is the more literal definition that really does mean zero (0) reasons. The second interpretation is the more exciting definition that allows for spontaneity.

Now, how does this help you, the reader?

Honesty, I'm not sure that this knowledge helps you with any practical applications in life. Examples are hard to come by because just about all the "no reason" excuses/reasons could be purposeful or not. It just depends on the person and their conviction/confidence.

ps - I may have used some aggressive adjectives in this post that are too indicative. One reason I write like this is to practice my copywriting so that I can more clearly express myself fully.

pps - "Because because" is not always a non-answer. But, it is definitely a unfinished sentence/idea.

Quote: You Have Time For Anything, But Not Everything

Today, while I was thinking about being able to make time for blog posts or not, I thought of "You have time for anything, but not everything."

But, that doesn't mean that I won't try!

Stupidity Doesn't Mean Not Creative

"Stupidity" does not mean not creative. Intelligence-challenged (read: "dumb") individuals have the ability to uniquely think outside the box. They may be less knowledgeable about current paradigms (also read "facts") or they may not be limited by current paradigms at all. This leads to a different set of experiences for the individual to draw conclusions upon.

I bring this up [finally] because I like to think of all possible solutions and know how people think (Developers/Designs: Great for creating use-cases). Also, I believe creativity is very important in life. It helps us come up with solution to problems we've never seen before.

I have at least six other posts on creativity at the time of this writing.

When Will Electronics Not Need Electricity?

Electricity is a hamper to our society.

You may argue that we would not be where we are today without electricity, and you'd be absolutely right. But, the problem is that many great products we enjoy require electricity; the electronic products we use today NEED electricity to operate.

Electricity is just a median for the electronics that we want to use. We don't actually care about electricity, we care about being able to operate our computers, televisions, phones, lights, and toasters.

Just like computers used to be people who were good with computing numbers in their head or on paper, electronics of the future will not be using electricity as a power source.

(...just trying to expand one's thinking...)

Don't be stuck in a paradigm. Facts change.

Answered: Outlook 2010 Not Able To Send Emails

Suddenly, I couldn't send emails anymore through Outlook, I could only receive. No settings were changed since when I first set up Outlook 2010 about two months ago.

I searched five minutes online and found a few promising answer, but no solutions. Anyways, the solution that worked for me was to change to using the SSL server instead of the regular mail.domain.com server. After changing the incoming and outgoing server addresses, mail in Outlook works again. In order to find the SSL addresses, look at the properties of your email provider. (This method was only tested connecting to Bluehost mail servers)

Other answer or way get Outlook to be able to send emails again:

  • Go to File->Account Settings->Account Settings->Double-click on the problem email. Then check the box that says "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"

If none of those solutions helped, then Microsoft provides a comprehensive guide on troubleshooting Outlook 2010.
