There is a lot of waste coming from every purchase of fast food - bags, boxes, wrappers, etc.
What if, instead of throwing everything away every time, we could use a reusable bag, just like the trend is starting at grocery stores?
One problem with this is that the bag may get dirty over time from the french fries, grease, and other materials.
Some solutions:
- Recycle the bag after it has been used so many times.
- Wash the bag.
- Have better wrappers for food put inside of bag.
- Make it a self-cleaning bag. Read more.
The above handles at least the to-go bag.
Another problem is the wrappers and boxes that the main sandwiches/hamburgers go in. Even if they are made out of paper or cardboard, they are still thrown away. So, how do you make a reusable box if it keeps getting dirty/soiled by the sandwich.
Solution: Add a super hydrophobic and/or another non-stick surface to it. Here's one example for superhydrophobic. As for non-stick, I've seen a few videos of ketchup (and more things) not sticking to the insides of bottles or other places with the added non-stick surface.

Dan Vs Meatball Subs
![]() |
| Not sure if meatball sub or pizza sub... |
I had a revelation today.
I thought I liked meatball subs that I got from sub places (e.g. Subway). But, as I was making my own homemade version, I figured out that the main reason I like it so much is because it is cleverly disguised as a pizza sub!
After-the-fact, this is now really obvious. A pizza in any form is still pizza, a delicious meal. Sub shops can sell two different names, but deliver the same product.

Danial Versus Oreos And Milk
Many people love to eat Oreo brand cookie sandwiches, some find the Oreo eating experience better with milk.
One way to have milk with an Oreo is to eat them separately, but together. I.e., first a bite of Oreo, then a swig of milk, then repeat.
Another great way to combine the two great products is to first dip the Oreo into a cup of milk for a few seconds, then enjoy how moist and soft the cookie is.
The third main way to enjoy both foods, and my personal favorite method, is as follows:

The third main way to enjoy both foods, and my personal favorite method, is as follows:
- Place Oreo in on tongue in mouth.
- Sip enough milk to barely drown the Oreo.
- After waiting a few seconds, eat/drink both together.
Pro tip: You can break the Oreo in half in your mouth in order to create a larger surface area for the milk to interact with the Oreo.
Out of these three methods, I believe that method 3 is the most efficient and satisfying way to enjoy an Oreo cookie with milk. But, out off pretend fairness, I will compare the pros (and cons) of method 2 and 3.
Method 2 Pros:
- You could just dip half of the Oreo into milk if you wanted to.
- You get to say that you can dip an Oreo in milk.
Method 3 Pros:
- Fingers don't get cold from the milk
- There is no cup small enough to worry about getting your hand stuck.
- When there is a low amount of milk left in the cup, it doesn't matter.
- By breaking up the Oreo in your mouth you create more surface area for the milk to react with the cookie and the cookie softens faster.
- There are no sad Oreo pieces left in the bottom of the milk cup.
If you have any opinions related to Oreos and milk, then I'd be happy to hear about it.

Food: PB&C - Peanut Butter And Chocolate Sandwich
For those times that you want to be a little creative (or don't have any jelly left), feel free to put peanut butter on one side of a slice of bread. On another slice, put some chocolate syrup. Step 3, put the two pieces together and Enjoy!

An Easier Way to Cook Rice
You may be thinking, rice is already easy enough to cook... just put in some rice and water and press the big button.
Don't be limited by your present notions of ease.
Don't be deceived by your preconceived notions of simplicity.
What if we didn't have to put in the water? What if we didn't have to put in the rice?
That sounds like a good future for me. And I'm sure a significantly advanced rice cooker could put whatever additional ingredients you wanted in there AND stir it!
Here's one way that this idea would work:
- A separate silo for both the rice and water (either bag or hose to the main line).
- An input for rice to water ratio, number of servings to make, and at what time to make it.
- And, of course, have the ability for a smartphone app to control the device.
This reminds me.. automated pizza makers already exist.. and here's how this pizza vending machine is made.
More ideas that I didn't think too much about:
- Ability to easily tilt rice container to make scraping out all of the grains to a plate easier.
- Building it into a counter or wall.

Obol - The Never-Soggy Cereal Bowl and Its Future
I saw the Obol in Brookstone over a month ago and really liked the idea of having the cereal and milk separate in order for the cereal to stay crispy the entire time you are eating.
Recently, I saw a post about it a food blog and started thinking about the idea of Obol again.
Imagine yourself eating out of a regular bowl of cereal with milk. The best bites are the first few because the cereal is the most crispy at that point. But, there is at least two more reasons why the first few bites are typically the best of the bunch. Point number three below I believe affects people on a more psychological level.
At the beginning of eating:
After determining that these are the reasons why I truly like cereal (besides the overall great taste), it is easy to determine that the Obol is does not significantly help me eat and enjoy my daily cereal. Obol performs task one very well. Task two is iffy. It may take longer for me to eat the bowlful of cereal, thus the milk will be warmer by the end (I am a cereal milk drinker). Obol fails at number three. By only putting a little bit of cereal in the milk compartment, the cereal spreads throughout the entire surface area of the milk, causing me trouble when I try to get a large scoop of cereal on my spoon. If I put any more than a little bit of cereal in the milk compartment, then I might as well be using a regular cereal bowl instead.
An idea for a bowl is to throw it in the refrigerator or freezer overnight and in the morning you can enjoy colder milk for a longer period of time! I haven't actually tried this out yet, but I will! Number two improved.
Another idea for a bowl to add a little vertical strainer on the coming out from the side. Milk will be able to go through the strainer, but the cereal will not. This could be a clip-on that would fit most bowls. Maybe it just have a little lip on it that allow it to sit on an edge. The idea is that you can gather up all the cereal to one side of the strainer, then a big scoop of cereal will be easy again. You could potentially just swirl your milk with the spoon and like magic, the cereal will all be gathered in one place. Number three vastly improved!!

At the beginning of eating:
- Cereal is still crispy
- Milk is the coldest
- It is easiest to get a huge scoop of cereal on the spoon!

Food is Memory
Computer literate people will know that there are many different levels of computer memory -- more than just RAM and hard drives. As I was preparing my after-dinner snack (delicious Churros cereal), I thought that the food that I eat and have in my apartment is highly analogous to memory in a computer. I will succinctly explain the analogy from fastest to slowest memory.
Registers - Chewed food, ready for consumption
L1 Cache - Food in mouth
L2 Cache - Food in spoon
GPU - Food in bowl (Either eaten one spoonful at a time or gulping it down(parallel processing))
RAM - Food in box
Flash - Food in my room
Solid-state drive (SSD) - Food in the pantry
Hard drive - Food at the grocery store
Tape - Wherever food is before the stores
Cloud - Food that is still on the farm
